Abstract
Educational institutions can do a lot in the preparation of students
for a world of work through the acquisition of relevant skills that can foster
self-reliant and creativity. Before now the content of education to a large
extent was irrelevant in improving the human recourses for national
development. Nevertheless, with the introduction of vocational and technical
education (VTE) into the curriculum and introduction of the Universal Basic
Education (UBE) emphasis is now placed on skill acquisition and self-reliance.
However, the UBE programme is faced with the problems of acute infrastructural
development, provision of adequate instructional materials, training and
retraining of vocational and technical education (VTE) teachers. Therefore,
this paper is geared towards blending the relevance of VTE in (UBE) and
suggests ways of proper implementation of UBE programme that will transform
vocational and technological standard of Nigeria.
