Adult education in Second Chance Schools: The case of Greece

Abstract
This study describes the historical
development of Lifelong Learning, from its beginnings to the present day, in
Greece and Europe. The objectives and importance of Lifelong Learning are then
presented, according to the bibliography and the Commissions of the European
Communities. In addition, the most basic concepts of adult education, which
belongs to Lifelong Learning, are recorded, and the special characteristics
that we encounter are described. The terms Lifelong Learning and Adult
Education are analyzed and their historical review is recorded. Then the
characteristics of adult learners are described and the institution of Second
Chance Schools is analyzed, whose structure and mode of operation are also
described. Finally, the conditions that must be created in order to have
effective learning in adults are mentioned, as well as what obstacles are
presented during the educational programs.
